Bellmore Road Repairs Taking Place as Part of TOH Capitalization Program
Difficult winter conditions necessitated repairs on road, which should last approximately two months but minimally inconvenience residents.

North Bellmore residents living along Bellmore Road between Jerusalem Avenue and Columbus Avenue can expect traffic delays over the next month as the Town of Hempstead re-curbs roads, driveway aprons, pedestrian access ramps and re-paves the entire road as part of its $40 million capitalization program.
The Town of Hempstead project – completed through the town's capital improvement budget – is not affected by the New York State budget.
According to Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, winter weather in recent years necessitated the repairs.

"The constant freezing and thawing conditions of winter can play havoc on our roads, and now is the ideal time to rehabilitate roads that are in need of repaving," Murray said. "Keeping town roads in good repair increases safety and reduces maintenance costs."
Residents were notified of the upcoming road improvement project for Bellmore Road last fall and Councilwoman Angie Cullin said the town and its contractor want to assure residents that all possible measures will be taken to complete the project with limited inconvenience and as expeditiously as possible. Town of Hempstead officials believe the project will near completion in mid-May.
Reinaldo Nunez, president of the North Bellmore Civic Association, welcomed the improvement project.

"It's well overdue," Nunez said. "A lot of these streets have been beaten by the snow and weather and it was time [the Town of Hempstead] re-did these roads, including paving of the streets."
The repairs should not adversely affect or inconvenience North Bellmore residents on the moderately busy road that leads to the Southern State Parkway.
"Schools and businesses will not be affected," Nunez said. "There are no businesses which will be affected, except possibly Bagel Café. Most of the repairs will be on a straight road leading to the parkway."
Nunez added that the repairs are part of a capitalization plan that was already completed south of Bellmore Road and that these repairs are the "last leg of it."
Councilman Gary Hudes expects the repairs will benefit the community for aesthetic reasons, stating that "area residents will be very pleased with how these improvements enhance the curbside appeal of their homes."
"Continuing to invest in community upgrades is another way the Town of Hempstead is improving the quality of life for residents," Murray added.
