Hicksville Man Convicted Of Predatory Sexual Assault And Other Charges Plans To Appeal, Attorney Says
Prosecutors say a Hicksville man was convicted of sexually assaulting and abusing a woman, while his attorney says he plans to appeal.
MINEOLA, NY — A Hicksville man plans to file an appeal after being convicted of predatory sexual assault and other charges this week, his attorney said Friday.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced Friday that 40-year-old Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez had been convicted of predatory sexual assault, three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree attempted assault, two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree assault and aggravated harassment, all in connection with what Donnelly called a “months long pattern of abuse” against a 32-year-old woman he met in 2023.
Donnelly’s office additionally said that Alvarado was affiliated with MS-13, the international gang that saw multiple members arrested in a gang sweep last month.

“This defendant trapped the victim in a cycle of violence and believed his affiliation with MS-13 made him untouchable,” Donnelly said. “The victim lived for several months with no choice but to comply with the defendant’s demands due to the constant threat of weapons. Now, she no longer has to live in fear because the defendant is headed to a place where he is no longer in control. The jury’s conviction ensures this predator will be the one complying with demands, from the inside of a prison cell.”
Reached for comment Friday, Alvarado’s attorney, Robert Schalk, said he would be filing an appeal.

“Although we respect the jury’s decision, we steadfastly maintain Mr. Alvarado’s innocence as it pertains to the charges he was convicted of,” Schalk said. “He plans to file an immediate appeal upon sentencing.”
In a news release announcing Alvarado’s conviction, Donnelly’s office said the man had met a woman on Aug. 23, 2023 and showed up at her apartment the following day to threaten her at gunpoint. In the ensuing weeks, Donnelly’s office said Alvarado abused, threatened and harassed the woman before sexually assaulting her at gunpoint.
In one incident on Nov. 26, 2023, Donnelly’s office said Alvarado smashed the woman’s phone and physically assaulted her during an altercation in her car, before driving her to a psychiatric center in Brentwood where he threatened to cut her hand off, kill and bury her. According to prosecutors, Alvarado told the woman he had murdered and buried a former girlfriend of his on the grounds of the psych center.
After these threats, Donnelly’s office said, Alvarado drove the woman back to his house and sexually assaulted her. Three days later, on Nov. 29, 2023, Alvarado sent her “intimidating” text messages which featured a video of two guns that he had previously used to threaten her life, Donnelly’s office said.
Alvarado was arrested that day while wearing a jacket with a loaded handgun, a magazine and ammunition in it, prosecutors said. A search of his bedroom uncovered a handgun, ammunition and multiple New York State IDs with Alvarado’s photo and different names, Donnelly’s office said.
Alvarado is due back in court for sentencing June 11 and could face 25 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
