Bellmore's Kevin Lu Gets Nomination for Air Force Academy

Bellmore resident Kevin Lu was among a group of Long Island residents recently nominated by Senator Kristen Gillibrand to the nation’s leading service institutions: the United States Air Force, Military, Naval, and Merchant Marine Academies. 

Lu was nominated to enter the United States Air Force Academy.

A selection committee formed by Senator Gillibrand chose the nominees from a large group of qualified applicants. Decisions were based on criteria including academic record, leadership potential, and overall achievement. Final acceptance is determined solely by the service academies. 

“Our service academies are distinguished by a devotion to honor, courage and commitment," Gillibrand said. "I am honored to nominate these young, talented New Yorkers who exemplify these core values. It is my hope that the accomplished nominees have the chance to live their dreams and serve in our country’s armed forces with distinction.”

• Michael A. Romano (Plainview) United States Naval Academy.
• Ashley P. Murphy (Rockville Centre) United States Naval Academy.
• Kevin J. Quinn (Hicksville) United States Merchant Marine Academy.
• Antonio C. Mistron (Farmingdale) United States Merchant Marine Academy.
• Maureen L. Purcell (Mineola) United States Merchant Marine Academy.
• Kevin Ng (Syosset) United States Merchant Marine Academy.
• James J. Raphael (Garden City) United States Merchant Marine Academy.
