Councilman Hudes Brings Gary on the Go to the Community

Residents bring their concerns to mobile office.

Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes takes his civic duties on the road with his mobile Gary On The Go program.

The program in Levittown was an opportunity for residents, like Henry Antonio of Bellmore (pictured), to meet one-on-one with the Councilman to discuss any community concerns.

This program is held in the mobile Town Hall unit, which is a large recreational vehicle, with a living room-like sitting area that lends itself to private conversation.

The Councilman sees the Gary On The Go program as a way to bring government to the people. Not everyone is comfortable with speaking publicly at a community meeting. The Gary On The Go program is generally held six times per year, in both the spring and fall. Locations are always very local (at a shopping center, school parking field, Town pool etc.) to make attending easy for residents and to bring their most local community representative right into the neighborhood. These meetings are held during the day, as well as in the evenings so that those who go to work can
still have an opportunity to meet and speak directly with their Councilman.

Councilman Hudes spoke of modifications in his Gary On The Go fall
schedule: "I feel strongly that it is vital to be responsive to residents and to bring
my office and our Town Services to the neighborhood. Therefore, in the fall,
in addition to after-hours Gary On The Go one-on-one meetings, I have also
scheduled a community meeting before working hours, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Rather than neighbors having to travel a few miles to Town Hall, they can meet me in their own neighborhood to discuss any community issues or concerns that they
may have. More specific information on all upcoming meetings will be mailed to
residents over the summer."
