Nassau County Strawberry Festival Starts Today

June 2-6 event will again be held on the grounds of Jerusalem Avenue BOCES in Bellmore.

The 2010 Nassau County Strawberry Festival  is being presented by the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs of the Bellmores from today through Sunday.

Now in its 22nd year, this festival features a full carnival, including rides and games and food as well as a strawberry-themed food and beverage area. Additionally, Blue Sky Entertainment will be providing the games and rides.

This year will also be the second year of the Green Expo, not to mention the Strawberry Festival itself is going green this year. All paper and plastic goods sold under the big tent will be made from 100 percent biodegradable materials.

"This is what our clubs are all about, improving the communities that we live in and helping the members of those communities," said John Monks, president of the Bellmore Kiwanis Club. 

Joe Anderson, Lions Club Past President, added, "it is important for clubs like ours to begin taking these steps and setting a good example for the members of our communities and show that everyone should get involved."

Additionally, a Craft Fair/Vendor Expo will be held for the second year. Festival-goers will also be treated to live music on Saturday and Sunday.

Proceeds will benefit the various charitable organizations that the Kiwanis and Lions Club help out.

The festival is open to the public on today and tomorrow (6-10 p.m.), Friday (6 to 11 p.m.), Saturday (12 to 11 p.m.) and Sunday (12 to 8 p.m.) Admission is $2 and parking is free.
