Officers Rescue Sleeping Man From House Fire: Police

No one was hurt in the early Sunday fire in Bellmore, police say.

BELLMORE, NY — First responders were called to a house fire in Bellmore early Sunday. One man, 54, was rescued by police and was not injured, police said.

Officers forced their way into a rear basement door and found the man sleeping. He was escorted to safety.

The Bellmore Fire Department extinguished the Grand Avenue blaze.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal and Arson/Bomb Squad Detectives were on the scene. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

The 75-year-old male owner was not home, according to police.
