Sound Off: Billy Dean's Showtime Cafe

The Town of Hempstead is currently deliberating whether or not to renew the cabaret license for Billy Dean's Showtime Cafe, which is located on Newbridge Road in North Bellmore.

According to News 12 Long Island, the license expired more than a year ago, and many residents are opposed to the business because of it's proximity to Newbridge Road School, as well as the North Bellmore Public Library and nearby homes.

From News 12:

An attorney for the cabaret's owner argues that it's not a strip club, and says it instead offers dancing and entertainment. However, the cabaret's website bills itself as the No. 1 strip club on Long Island. The attorney says that's merely meant to entice people to visit.

William Cohn represented Owner Billy Dean at a North Bellmore Civic Association meeting last May, and he said that no laws are being broken, and Billy Dean's is not violating any codes.

"We are not in violation of anything and we are in compliance of the law," Cohn said. "There has just been speculation due to the establishment's advertising."
