Town Continues Construction on Newbridge Road Park Bulkheads

The east side of Newbridge Road Park is getting a facelift along its canals.

The Town of Hempstead began its construction on the park's bulkheads a little more than a month ago, according to reports.

Town spokesman Michael Deery told the Long Island Herald that not only are all of the components of the bulkhead being restored along "a canal that flows south to East Bay," but all storm drains are also being replaced.

The project, which is being done "in-house" to save money, has already had more than 200 feet of bulkhead and two storm drains completed.

The existing bulkhead, a retaining wall designed to prevent erosion that stretches about 1,000 feet, needs to be replaced to keep the park’s waterway clean, safe and navigable, town officials said.

The structure is being replaced for about $150 per linear foot, Deery also told the Herald.
