Town of Hempstead Notebook: Hope for Hempstead Shelter Rally, Creative Writer Workshop
A weekly look-in at news in the Town of Hempstead.

Hope for Hempstead Shelter Holds Rally
Hope for Hempstead Shelter held a rally at the southeast corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Gardeners Avenue in Levittown yesterday afternoon in regards to the Town of Hempstead's self investigation of the infamous "Kill the Kitty" video.
"Self investigation raises many questions of a conflict of interest" said Derek Donnelly, the Hope for Hempstead Shelter's director. "We see special prosecutors appointed for the Nassau Crime Lab and other government investigations yet the town thinks they are somehow above the law."

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray has announced that members of the Department of Senior Enrichment Creative Writer's Workshop are holding a reading of their original works on Wednesday, May 18 at the Merrick Theatre and Center of the Arts.
"At the reading, participants of the town's Creative Writing Workshop are afforded an opportunity to share their memoirs, short stories and poetry with the community," Murray said.
The public is invited to attend the presentation beginning at 1 p.m. at the Merrick Theatre and Center of the Arts, located at 2222 Hewlett Avenue in Merrick. The readings will be followed by an informal coffee hour.
Admission is free. The compositions, produced by seniors in workshop sessions, will be published by the town this fall in an annual compilation entitled "Musings of Maturity XXIII."
The 13-week Creative Writing Workshop is partially funded through a grant from Poets and Writers, Inc. The Merrick Theatre and Center of the Arts generously donates the use of its facility. For additional information regarding this program, please contact the Department of Senior Enrichment at (516) 485-8100.
