Town of Hempstead to Host Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Event
Program at the town's animal shelter on Thursday, May 6.

Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Angie Cullin have announced that the town will hold a spay/neuter day for feral cats (non-pet felines, living in outdoor environment) at the town's animal shelter on Thursday, May 6. Feral cats that are not spayed or neutered may wander from place to place throughout our region resulting in pockets of feral cat overpopulation.
"In an effort to mitigate the overpopulation of feral cats in our area, Hempstead Town is pleased to offer the second in a series of free spay/neuter events for feral cats," stated Supervisor Murray.
"We are being proactive in combating this serious problem and hope that residents will make an appointment to have feral cats under their care spayed or neutered," said Councilwoman Angie Cullin.
Residents are encouraged to schedule an appointment for the feral cats that they are feeding and plan to bring to the program. Up to three feral cats may be brought in for free spay/neuter. For the safety of all participants we ask that cats be brought in traps. Space is limited and appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Proof of residency must be provided.
To register for an appointment or to get more information about this program, please call the Animal Shelter at 785-5220. The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh.
"This is such a great program to help control our feral cat population in the town," concluded Supervisor Murray. "I urge every resident who cares about feral cats to take advantage of this great opportunity."
