Wal-Mart Employees Support Supreme Court Decision

Local workers in East Meadow say they've never seen bias at the store.

Wal-Mart won big Monday morning, as the Supreme Court sided with the big box store on a colossal class action lawsuit filed by women who said they failed to earn promotions because of their gender.

In East Meadow, local Wal-Mart employees said they supported the court's 5-4 ruling.

Marilyn Cimitile of Hicksville has worked at the East Meadow location for four years and she said she was "happy" with her job.

"They’re very good to me and they’re very nice to me," Cimitile said, adding that most of the managers at her store are women. "The managers are great and I think they treat us fairly.”

Sheldon Meyers, who has been at the location for a little more than eight years, said his Wal-Mart gig has been one of his steadiest jobs.

"It's got roots, it's got medical plans – you can't ask for better," he said.

Meyers, who lives in Wantagh and is semi-retired, sent two kids through college while making a living as a comic. Now, as he has gotten older, he works part-time at Wal-Mart to make a little extra.

"It's a great base and it's steady – that's why I'm here," Meyers said.

Another employee, Antonio Paolercio of East Meadow, welcomes people as they enter the store. He does that from his electric wheelchair.

Paolercio said that over the last few years, he has gotten tired of the job and would like to take on a new role with the company.

"I'm looking for a new position," he said.

However, Paolercio said the Wal-Mart environment was "cool."

"The managers and the people are cool, depending on who you deal with," he said. "...My co-workers are cool – they're helpful."

The Wal-Mart employees interviewed were informed not to give out their salary information as per company policy.
