• Town partners with community group to collect peanut butter (jericho-news-journal.com) — Bethpage residents can support local food pantries by dropping off new, sealed peanut butter and alternative nut butters at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center on Stewart Avenue from October 1 through November 15. The town and the Massapequa Farmingdale Men’s Club say peanut butter is especially valued because it’s nutritious, shelf-stable, and popular with all ages.
   

• Service restored on LIRR after strong winds likely knocked down utility poles west of Bethpage (news12.com) — LIRR service near Bethpage is back after two utility poles fell across the Ronkonkoma branch tracks west of town, causing shutdowns and delays. Crews cleared the line late Wednesday, but riders should still expect some delays as equipment is repositioned and officials watch how this weekend’s expected nor’easter could impact service again.
   

• Judge sent message about public corruption with Mangano resentence (newsday.com) — Former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, a Bethpage resident, has had his prison term on federal corruption charges reduced from 12 to 10 years after resentencing. Legal experts and political figures across party lines are debating whether the new sentence is too harsh or appropriately sends a message about public corruption in one of New York’s largest counties.
