Two Teachers from Brentwood's East Middle School Honored at 2018 GENYOUth Gala

Brentwood, New York (December 2018)—The Brentwood Union Free School District (BUFSD) is proud to announce the recognition of two of East Middle School’s teachers—Yesenia Pion and Jeanine Rotolo—at GENYOUth’s largest fundraiser of the year, the 2018 GENYOUth Gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. The organization is a public charity focused on advancing youth wellness through nutrition and physical activity.

“Yesenia and Jeanine are extraordinary teachers. Their genuine dedication to helping students lead positive lifestyles has shined through the numerous initiatives they have led,” said Mr. Richard Loeschner, Superintendent of Brentwood Union Free School District. “The district is proud to have teachers like Yesenia and Jeanine who leave a lasting impression on the lives of their students.”

Yesenia, East Middle School health teacher and Fuel Up to Play 60 program advisor, and Jeanine, East Middle School 7th grade special education teacher, were invited to attend the GENYOUth Gala as a thank you for their work and dedication with the organization. Both teachers have offered significant time, resources, and commitment to empower the children of the next generation through a number of programs, most specifically Fuel Up to Play 60, the largest in-school wellness program in the country.

“As outstanding educators and colleagues, Yesenia and Jeanine both work tirelessly for the students of East Middle School,” said Michael McGinn, Assistant Principal of East Middle School.

Last year, in collaboration with GENYOUth, Yesenia sat on a sleep study committee to create a survey that was released through Fuel Up to Play 60, an in-school nutrition and exercise program that aims to encourage today’s youth to lead healthier lives. In recognition of her hard work with the organization, Yesenia was asked to share the stage with Thurman Thomas, former NFL player from the Buffalo Bills, and Jean Ragali-Carr, former dietician for the National Dairy Council. Jeanine also had the honor of meeting New York Yankee star Aaron Judge.
