
Brentwood, N.Y. (October 2019)—The Brentwood Union Free School District (BUFSD) recently announced that it has appointed Marlene Ramos-Velita as Coordinator of Attendance, Vincent R. Leone as Coordinator of Funded Programs, Elias E. Mestizo as Assistant Principal of North Middle School, and Kenya Vanterpool as Assistant Principal of South Middle School.
“It brings me great pleasure to welcome Marlene, Vincent, Elias and Kenya to our district for the 2019-2020 school year,” said Mr. Richard Loeschner, Superintendent of Brentwood Union Free School District. “Our four new administrators come to us with exceptional credentials and I am confident they will contribute immensely to our district’s academic excellence.”
With nearly 20 years of experience in the education field, Dr. Marlene Ramos-Velita brings to Brentwood a comprehensive background in educational leadership and world language. Dr. Velita has served as Director and Founder of El Centro Comunitario de Educación, a non-profit organization that responds to young leadership and emerging social mobility needs and as a world language teacher in Syosset School District from 1999 to 2014. Most recently, Dr. Velita served as Department Chair of World Language and ENL in Great Neck South Middle School.

After receiving a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture from State University of New York at Buffalo, Dr. Ramos-Velita received a Master of Science in Secondary Education from Dowling College and a Doctor of Educational Leadership and Policy from Hofstra University.
With more than 15 years in education, Brentwood’s new Coordinator of Funded Programs Dr. Vincent Leone was most recently a professor of leadership courses in the School District Administration and Leadership Masters program at The College of Saint Rose. Since July of 2012, Dr. Leone has served as Program Coordinator for Long Island at Eastern Suffolk BOCES. Dr. Leone also served as Special Education School Improvement Specialist and Assistant Administrative Coordinator at Eastern Suffolk BOCES. Dr. Leone’s distinguished resume also includes several positions in the New York City school system, including serving as a middle school special education teacher, a middle school dean of students and an IEP teacher.

Dr. Leone holds a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Rhetorical Studies from Hofstra University, a Master of Science in General Education/Students with Disabilities from Touro College, a Master of Science in School Supervision and Administration from College of Saint Rose, and a Doctor of Education from St. John’s University.
Elias E. Mestizo, Assistant Principal of North Middle School, comes to Brentwood with 17 years in the educational field. Most recently, Mr. Mestizo served as a teacher and District Teacher Mentor Coordinator in Hempstead’s Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School. He also served as a middle school ENL/BIL/LOTE instructional coach in the Hempstead School District.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language from St. John’s University, Mr. Mestizo earned a Master of Science in Secondary Education and Teaching from Queens College; a Master of Science in Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy from Fordham University; and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership for Diverse Learning Communities through Molloy College.
Mr. Kenya Vanterpool, Assistant Principal of South Middle School, comes to Brentwood with more than 15 years of educational experience. Previously, Mr. Vanterpool served as School Social Worker and Dean of Students in Manhasset Secondary School and Westbury School District; Assistant Principal and Dean of Students in Wyandanch School District and Hempstead School District; Education and Program Coordinator at United Way of Long Island; and Summer School Principal of Hempstead School District. Most recently, he served as Principal of Milton L. Oliva Middle School in Wyandanch School District.
Mr. Vanterpool received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Molloy College, Master in Social Work from Adelphi University, and Master of Science in Counselor Education from Hofstra University. He also holds a Certificate in School Administrator and Supervisor and Certificate of School District Administration from the College of Saint Rose.
