Bright Futures for Brentwood Graduates

Brentwood Seniors Accepted to Nation's Most Premier Institutions of Higher Learning including Two Ivy League Universities

Brentwood, N.Y. (March 2019)—As the 2018-19 school year is in its final months, Brentwood Union Free School District is proud to recognize several distinguished seniors as they take the next step to further their education. Several students in Brentwood’s Class of 2019 plan to attend some of the nation’s most premier institutions of higher learning including two Ivy league universities—Columbia University, Yale University, Long Island University Post, New York University, Georgetown University and University of Rochester.

“Throughout the past four years, our seniors have shown tremendous growth and success in and out of the classroom. Through their dedication and diligence to their education and as positive role models to their peers, these students have exemplified the skills we aim to instill in each student,” said Mr. Richard Loeschner. Superintendent of Brentwood Union Free School District. “On behalf of the entire Brentwood community, we congratulate them on their accomplishments and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

Leonardo Campos was recently accepted to Columbia University through Early Decision to study biomedical engineering. Leo’s dedication to his studies has earned him a scholarship of $72,000 per year to cover the cost of tuition and room and board. Throughout his time in the district, Leonardo attended North Elementary, North Middle, and Brentwood High School.

Anthony Coelho and Flor Villanueva will be furthering their education at Yale University, one of the nation’s most revered universities. Yale’s acceptance rate is seven percent. Anthony is a former student of Hemlock Park Elementary, West Middle School and the Brentwood Freshman Center. Flor, who plans to study psychology during college, is a former student of Northeast Elementary School and East Middle School.

Carlos Claudio, ranked 14 in the Ross Center for his 99.69 weighted average, will be attending the College of Management at Long Island University Post through an exclusive Dean’s Scholar Program. Carlos was selected to receive a T. Denny Sanford Scholarship providing a full-tuition scholarship for all four years. Carlos will be studying computer science. Throughout his years in the district, Carlos previously attended Southeast Elementary School and East Middle School.

Abraham Bustamante will be taking his talents to New York University (NYU) where he will be studying business and law. Abraham’s educational excellence through high school has earned him a well-deserved scholarship of $40,000 per year. He is a former student at North Elementary, North Middle and the Freshman Center.

Evelyn Pineda will be enriching her education at the University of Rochester, one of the nation’s leading private universities. Evelyn’s intellect and determination to succeed earned her a $70,000 scholarship per year for the four years she will be attending Rochester.

Brian Torres will be attending Georgetown University in Washington, D.C, a private research institution with an acceptance rate of 17 percent, where he plans to major in biology and pursue the pre-medical curriculum. Brian began his education in Brentwood as a monolingual student in 3rd grade at North Elementary and continued to North Middle School.
