Central Islip School Budget Passes

The votes are in. The absentee ballots were counted and the community approved the 2020-2021 school budget.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Residents within the Central Islip School District boundaries voted to approve the 2020-21 school budget by a margin of 1,614 votes to 597.

Residents voted on the district's proposed $220,487,829 spending plan for the school year, a 1.81 percent increase from the current budget. To fund the increase, the district proposed a tax levy of $94,132,834 up 0.65 percent from the current year's.

In addition, residents elected the three school board trustees. Michele Harriott, who received 1,754 votes, Jim Musumeci, who received 1,374 votes and Norman A. Wagner, who received 1,420 votes, beat out Debra Cavanagh who received 1,156 votes.
