Students enrolled in the Central Islip High School's
Student Action Committee have been busily volunteering to enhance
Central Islip's schools, and to give back to their community. The
Student Action Committee's 'Laces for Children With Cancer' efforts
raised over $600 for this worthwhile cause. Additionally, students
designed over 960 'thank you' cards which they created and presented to
Central Islip School District staff as a display of their appreciation
for their assistance to students during the COVID pandemic. Last year,
the students collected over 1,000 pairs or socks for families throughout
the Central Islip Community. Most recently, the students, under the
direction of Mrs. Isabelle Mitchell, have been conducting a series of
purple and yellow tulip plantings on the grounds of the District's eight
schools. Mrs. Mitchell explained that the students' endeavors are "all
about community service," where they are giving back to their community,
raising funds for worthwhile organizations, and beautifying the schools
in their hometown. Photos in this presentation depict Student Action
Committee members planting tulip bulbs around the U.S. Flagpole in the
front of Reed Middle School which will blossom into beautiful purple and
yellow flowers in Spring of 2022.
