Councilman Supports Reading Campaign At C.I. Elementary School
Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. recently attended a local school in celebration of the school's annual Guest Readers Day.

From The Town of Islip: Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. attended Francis J. O’Neill Elementary School in Central Islip recently, in celebration of the school’s annual Guest Readers Day. The Councilman made a special appearance in Mrs. McCabe's kindergarten class, and read “Dino Pets” by Lynn Plourde, as part of People As Reading Partners’ (PARP) initiative to invite young students to experience the joy of reading.
PARP is one of the many events the school conducts throughout the year to promote literacy and strengthen communal ties through the power reading. Earlier in the week, Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter helped launch the initiative as a guest reader at Francis J. O’Neill Elementary School, where she read, “The Great South Bay,” a book that describes life in and around the Great South Bay, written and illustrated by Jeanine Carnaggio O’Grady, an art teacher in the Central Islip School District.
