CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - A gang shooting at a Central Islip deli resulting in the death of Esteban Alvarado-Bonilla was allegedly sparked by a Peyton Manning jersey, according to a report in the New York Post.

According to feds, in Jan. 2017 a member of the Sailors clique saw Alvarado-Bonilla inside El Campesino Deli in Central Islip and decided to kill him, believing that he was a rival 18th Street gang member, according to the U.S. attorney.

MS-13 gang member Mario Aguilar-Lopez, drove to the deli along with two associates, approached Alvarado-Bonilla from behind and fatally shot him multiple times, the U.S. attorney said.

Jose Suarez, of Central Islip, was also charged in connection to the incident as the getaway driver following the killing, officials say.

In court on Tuesday, US Assistant Attorney Raymond A. Tierney stated that Suarez was trying to "rise up the ranks" of the gang, the New York Post reports.

According to the report, the members thought Alvarado-Bonilla was part of the rival 18th Street gang because he was seen wearing Peyton Manning's jersey, which had the number 18 on it.
