Islip Forward Raises Concerns After Federal Activity Reported At Central Islip Firehouse

A statement from Islip Forward says federal agents were present on Central Islip Fire Department property without authorization.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A local civic organization says federal agents were seen using infrastructure on Central Islip Fire Department property the morning of Jan.30 without prior authorization, prompting temporary access restrictions and renewed concerns about transparency and jurisdiction.

In a public statement, Islip Forward said the activity occurred at around 9:30 a.m. at Central Islip Fire Department Station 2 on Wheeler Road on Jan 30. The group said agents were documenting infrastructure located on the property despite not having permission to be on or use the space.

ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to the statement, a volunteer affiliated with Islip Forward approached the scene to document the activity and was subsequently threatened with arrest for alleged trespassing. The organization contended that the agents themselves were operating in an area where prior permission had not been granted.

The group said that immediately following the interaction, the Central Islip Fire Department implemented temporary restrictions on the area, including closing a gate and limiting external access in what was described as an effort to protect department property and the public.

Central Islip Fire Department officials declined to comment and directed inquiries to the fire district.

The reported activity comes amid ongoing local debate over federal immigration enforcement and the Town of Islip’s training agreement with the Department of Homeland Security, which has drawn protests in recent months from advocacy groups including Islip Forward.

Islip Forward characterized the incident as raising “serious concerns” about transparency, potential overreach, and respect for local institutions. The organization also expressed gratitude to volunteer firefighters for what it called a decisive and responsible response.

No federal agency was identified in the statement, and it was not immediately clear which department or operation was involved. Additional details regarding the purpose of the agents’ presence were not provided.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
