Officer, 2 Others Hospitalized After Chain-Reaction Crash On LIE
The officer's marked patrol vehicle was hit during a traffic stop on the expressway Thursday afternoon.
BRENTWOOD, NY - Three people — including a police officer — were hospitalized after a chain-reaction crash on the Long Island Expressway in Brentwood Thursday afternoon, according to Suffolk Police.
A Highway Patrol officer was in his vehicle, conducting a traffic stop on the right shoulder, when his vehicle was rear-ended by another car on the eastbound LIE, just east of exit 52, at 12:35 p.m.
The police vehicle, a marked highway patrol unit, then struck the car that was pulled over for the traffic stop.

The driver of the car that struck the police vehicle was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer and at least one occupant of the car involved in the traffic stop were also transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
