BUFSD's Principal and Supervisor Organization Bring More than Toys to Good Samaritan's Pediatric Floor This Year

Brentwood, N.Y. (December 2018)—The Brentwood Union Free School District (BUFSD) administrators recently brought some holiday cheer to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center with Christmas caroling. More than 30 members of Brentwood's Principals and Supervisors Organization (BPSO) gave it their best and filled the rooms and halls of the pediatric floor of Good Samaritan with traditional holiday songs of the season.
“Teaching students often begins with demonstrations from administrators. At Brentwood, it’s important to us as leaders in the district to teach education in tandem with values,” said Mr. Richard Loeschner, Superintendent of Brentwood Union Free School District. “BPSO is proud to take part in an initiative to spread joy during this holiday time. This annual event shows our students the significance of working with others and giving back to the surrounding community.”
In what has become an annual tradition, members of BPSO represented the district at Good Samaritan’s pediatric unit to put smiles on children's faces with a variety of holiday celebrations. Dressed in their red holiday BPSO t-shirts, elf ears and Santa hats, Brentwood’s administrators distributed toys, crafts, and stuffed animals to help ease the time these children have to spend in the hospital this holiday season. Without hesitation, the gifts were generously purchased and donated by members of BPSO.

“Our goal is to bring holiday spirit to the pediatric patients, their families and caregivers at Good Sam,” said Lisa Catandella, Principal of Oak Park Elementary School. “Our carolers don’t need to be great singers, they just need to sing with spirit!”
For the last eight years, Brentwood’s Principal and Supervisors Organization has spread holiday spirit with local community members and Brentwood coworkers. Each year, principals and administrators look forward to caroling at Good Samaritan to share the holiday cheer with these children while spending quality time with one another. As a large district with 15 school buildings, it’s important to administrators to organize events throughout the year to bring everyone together for a common purpose; this month’s being smiles on children’s faces during the holiday time.
