BRENTWOOD, NY - Town officials have begun work on the Olympic-sized swimming pool at Roberto Clemente Park set to open in 2018.
The $2.78 million project will be completed by the Holtsville-based Bensin Contracting Inc., according to a report in Newsday.

Roberto Clemente was shut down in 2014 after it was discovered that toxic waste had been illegally dumped in the park.
The park officially reopened in July after being closed for 3 years.
After the park opening, several local community leaders gathered to express their disappointment and stated the additional work the park needed.
Tom Owens, Islip’s commissioner of public works and parks and recreation, told Newsday that the pool had been "neglected" and now has sustained damage due to the weather conditions over the past few years.
