Woman Accused Of Not Caring For Dog Who Had To Be Put Down: SPCA

The 52-year-old was charged with animal cruelty after her 6-year-old Golden Retriever, Butters, had to be euthanized, the SPCA said.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - A Central Islip woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly not taking care of her 6-year-old dog who had to be euthanized, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.

Gabriella James, 52, was charged with animal cruelty for failure to provide proper sustenance including proper veterinary care for Butters, a male Golden Retriever, the SPCA said.

Butters was found emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, flea infested, suffering from leptospirosis and Lyme disease and was in renal failure, the SPCA said.

The dog had to be humanely euthanized after all life saving efforts were exhausted, according to the SPCA.

James is schedule to appear in First District Court on December 9, 2019.

SPCA Chief Roy Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County.
