• LIRR to make upgrades aimed at avoiding packed trains in summer on Montauk line (newsday.com) — Upcoming Long Island Rail Road upgrades at Amagansett and Hampton Bays aim to ease crowding on the Montauk line that serves Bridgehampton riders. While Bridgehampton’s own siding isn’t being rebuilt yet, the longer sidings and platforms nearby should improve reliability and reduce summer crush conditions for locals who depend on these trains. 
• An American mink just surfaced on Long Island. Researchers are stunned (greaterlongisland.com) — Long Island researchers just confirmed a rare American mink on camera in Northport, ending decades of doubt about whether the species still survives here. Biologist Mike Bottini, who once searched mink tracks in Bridgehampton’s Long Pond Greenbelt, says the find raises urgent questions about what nearly wiped mink out and how rodent poisons, trapping, and habitat pressures might be affecting other local mammals.
