2 Westchester Men Sentenced In Assault At Ravens Game

EASTCHESTER, NY — Two Westchester men will not have to serve time in jail after assaulting a 55-year-man at a Baltimore Ravens game in Maryland in 2016. Andrew Nappi, 32, of Eastchester, and Scott Smith, 30, of Mount Vernon, will each serve 18 months probation after entering an Alford plea Friday in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

The men were charged with one count of second-degree assault, a misdemeanor, the Baltimore Sun reported. [Get Patch’s Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts here.]

According to Lawyer.com, a Alford plea is a guilty plea by a defendant who claims to be innocent. Such a defendant believes the evidence too strong to go to trial and that going to trial would increase the chance of a jury conviction with a resulting tougher sentence.

Smith, a firefighter from Mount Vernon, and Nappi were at the Oct. 2, 2016, Ravens game and had an altercation with 55-year-old Joseph Bauer of Maryland.

Bauer was left with a serious head injury and, at the time, was given a 30-percent chance of survival.

His family said he has not fully recovered from the injury, the Baltimore Sun said, and has had to relearn to walk and talk.
