5 Things: Goodwill opens in Eastchester, Board of Education Meeting & More

1.   Goodwill to Open First Eastchester DonationXpress

Goodwill will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning to celebrate the opening of its newest DonationXpress location in Eastchester located at 19 Mill Road. DonationXpress, an attended donation center, offers Westchester residents a fast and easy way to get rid of the clothing, electronics, and other household items their families no longer need, and get a tax receipt for their donation. The center serves as a convenient and environmentally friendly final destination for those itemsfound when de-cluttering closets. The opening ceremony will be held at the new location at 10 a.m. Tueday. Story to come on Eastchester-Bronxville Patch.

2.   Eastchester Board of Education to Continue Expansion Discussion at Regular Meeting

The Eastchester Board of Education will hold a regular meeting Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Eastchester High School Library. The Board will continue the discussion and review of plans for potential expansion of Middle School and/or High School, as well as the possibility of bringing a proposal for either $12.7 million or a $26 million bond to the public for a vote in the fall. Attend the meeting to have your voice and opinion heard.

3. Free Jazz Concert at Beczak Center

Kim Clarke & MAGNETS!, the jazz/funk/world music quartet led by bassist Kim Clarke, will be performing as part of the "Celebrating Women in Jazz Concert Series" at Beczak Environmental Education Center’s riverfront park Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. JazzReview.com calls the group a “made-in-heaven marriage of Funkadelic’s groove and the intricate rhythms of Weather Report at its most aggressive.”  Concert is free and is presented by Jazz Forum Arts.

4.   Sign Up for 35th Annual Tuckahoe Road Challenge

Registration is now open for the 35th Annual Tuckahoe Road Challenge, presented by the Village of Tuckahoe and Hudson Valley Bank. The event is set for September 11, and features a 1 mile race and a 5 mile race. Both races finish and end at the Tuckahoe Community Center. Awards will be giving out to finishers in a number of divisions, and all proceeds will go to Tuckahoe Senior Citizens, Tuckahoe Beautification, Eastchester Community Action Programa and EVAC.
