Just another day at the dentist

A million dollars, that's what it must have cost to create the one of a kind pediatric dentist's office of Dr. Penny Resnick  in Tuckahoe. It has everything a young child could want to ease fear and entertain or occupy siblings and moms. One room is outfitted for watching movies, one room is games on a computer, another mechanical knobs, lights, and a wall with magnets. They also have theme days and a face painter/tatto artist.

I remember my dentist's office. The room had these stiff blue leather chairs, that I swear were always cold when you sat in them and never got warm, no matter if you sat in them for what felt like an eternity. I would scan the room hoping to get a glimpse of a kid friendly theme like an old "highlights" magazine, anything to get my mind off the appointment. Now the only thing my daughter is worried about is what time the face painter was going on break, and would she still be there when she was done with the dentist?

[Did I mention that she is carried away into the examining room by the dental angels (dental assistant/hygenists) without mommy needing to help. I can sit and drink the coffee or tea that is offered while her younger brother runs around and samples all the fun...fabulous!]

So halfway through my coffee, with little Liam flirting with the face painter, out comes Dr. Penny (gulp). Oh no, this means cavities, and it did, three to be exact. Well Sophia comes out and sits in front of the face painter smiling, happy that she is still there, completely unaware of her THREE cavities. Over her next three visits is when I realize just how these awesome special effects in the waiting room and examining room will come to be useful. The life size scuba guy in his tank, the Rhino busting through the wall...plenty of distractions to make these appointments worth the cavities.
