Bronxville Art Students Exhibit Work in Upcoming Show

Mini Pablo Picassos and Da Vincis will showcase their work when Bronxville High School puts on it annual art show beginning June 6.

Fourteen students will headline the show, which will run until June 11 at the Bronxville Women’s Club on Midland Avenue. An opening reception will be held on June 7.

“This is our first year at the Bronxville Women’s Club. We are very excited and chose to have it there because it provided optimal space and sparks community involvement,” said studio and AP Art teacher Joanne Dalsimer. “We want people to know what we are doing. The students do an amazing job.” 

The students’ work varies from watercolor to pencil and photography to digital art, sketching and more. In AP Art, students choose a thesis topic, which is one idea or concept that takes on a life of it’s own throughout their senior year.

Claudia Nagy, a junior at the high school, said the community will see the students’ dedication to their craft in the artwork that will be exhibited during the show.

"No toil is as rewarding as that which buds from the practice of art. All year long, students are flooding the art room from morning until night, often staying well past dinner. Students work diligently, as they are completely absorbed in their work," Nagy said.

Dalsimer said her goal as an educator is to encourage her students’ passions and push them to create work of which they are proud.

"I just push them like any coach and I don't accept anything less,” she said. “If I stop when they are done, I would get half the quality and half the work. But because of it, they get to explore and do different things with their pieces.”

“At the end they can't believe what they've done,” she added. “To see the final product, it's quite breathtaking."
