Bronxville High School Students Talk About Healing, Wellness

They spoke to their peers during the annual Bronxville Voices Assembly.

BRONXVILLE, NY — Bronxville High School students heard from four of their peers who spoke about the different aspects of healing and wellness in their lives.

Caroline Kirby, Claire Kraemer, Michael Landy and Remi Laurence delivered their remarks during the recent fifth annual Bronxville Voices Assembly, according to a district spokeswoman.

“The Bronxville Voices Assembly series was created to provide a space and place for students to share their passions and interests with their peers,” said history teacher Bill Meyer, who has been organizing the spring and fall assemblies since 2011.

“It has become an opportunity to further develop community across the whole school,” he said. “At the heart of a Bronxville education is the development of voice within our students, and out of this sense of voice comes a deeper sense of purpose and calling in the world."

Kirby, a junior, talked about suffering an injury while running last year and discussed her ongoing efforts to overcome it.

Kraemer, a junior, spoke about the healing powers of silence and her experiences at a monastery in Taizé, France. For the past two years during winter school break, she has traveled to the monastery along with 20 classmates from Bronxville.

Landy, a senior, talked about his experience practicing mindfulness as part of the Meditation Club over the last four years and how it has helped him take a break from his stressful and busy schedule.

Laurence, a senior, spoke about volunteering at a cancer research lab where he worked toward developing a cure for renal cell carcinoma and pancreatic cancer.

"I hope all of our students took away a deeper understanding and appreciation of what healing means,” Meyer said. “I also hope they took away a greater appreciation for the talents and experiences of their peers.”
