In Korea, 1952, Pvt. Daniel Wolfe was the runner (contact between the point man and the officer leading the raid) for the 2nd platoon, Company L, 15th Regt, 3rd Infantry Division.
His experience as a combat infantryman in Korea remained frozen in his mind for decades. At a reunion with his army buddies, they recalled their ordeal on the front line and the fun they had in reserve. This awoke Dan to the nightmare that lay dormant in his brain for forty-five years. With the therapy he was receiving for PTSD at the Bronx Veteran’s Administration, Dan was able to revive his experiences and the feelings that accompanied them. His revised memoir, Cold Ground’s Been My Bed delves into the mind of an infantryman as he is being briefed on an impending raid, and what is churning within him while the operation is ongoing. The book is now available on amazon.com or can be ordered at any Barnes and Noble bookstore.

LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND is the ethos of the U.S. military.
Korea, the night of August 8, 1952: Pvt. Daniel Wolfe’s platoon was trapped in an ambush. When informed that his sergeant was lying motionless on a fire swept terrain, Dan left his covered position, crawled under a hail of burp-gun bullets and retrieved his sergeant.
Upon checking his files, forty-five years later, his company commander discovered that a barrage of mortar rounds blew up the jeep carrying Dan’s citation for The Silver Star Medal. On April 19, 1998, at the University of North Carolina, he was awarded the Bronze Star with a “V” for valor.
Cold Ground’s Been My Bed has recaptured the terror and humor of his assignment in Korea. Dan has also written Seabury Place: A Bronx Memoir, and Coming Home: A Soldier Returns From Korea. His books are available on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.Wolfe lives in Bronxville with his wife.
