Police Investigating Mail Thefts
Members of Congress last week urged the postmaster general to do something about the rash of thefts around the region.

BRONXVILLE, NY — Recent mail thefts are being investigated by Bronxville and Yonkers police. One of the latest thefts is the taking of mail deposited in the lobby of the Pondfield Road post office. A rash of thefts from mailboxes plagued Yonkers.
Bronxville police said they have made arrests and continue looking for other suspects, the Journal News said.
Last week, members of Congress sent a letter to the U.S. postmaster general calling for the postal service to address the mail theft around the Hudson Valley.

They also want the postal service to address complaints about delivery reliability that plagues the area.
Yonkers police and US Postal Inspection Service issued a Public Safety Alert regarding multiple incidents of mail theft that occurred May 29 at 2 a.m. in the areas of South Broadway and Riverdale Avenue. The following mailboxes were targeted and their contents stolen:

Police said: If you utilized these mailboxes within the past 72 hours to send checks or checking account information, please notify your financial institutions and verify your bank accounts have not been compromised. You should advise your bank and credit institutions of the potential for fraud activity, and monitor your accounts closely for the next several months. Additionally, please be aware of the potential for identity theft, late payment charges for bill payments sent through the mail, and financial scams targeting your household. It is recommended you contact the credit bureaus to place fraud alerts in your files.
