Bronxville Police: Irene Alert #4

Hurricane Irene continues on a track up the east coast and the outer bands of rain have already reached the Village. While some have reported a weakening of the storm, it remains an extremely dangerous and potentially deadly storm. We have been advised that sustained tropical storm winds (50-60 mph) will be here between 8-9 p.m. this evening and will continue through the afternoon on Sunday with hurricane force winds expected to arrive in the early morning hours Sunday. Gusts are still expected to exceed 80 mph.

Rainfall estimates have increased to nearly a foot of rain in a very short period of time. Flooding is likely thoughout the Village.

If you have no removed valuables from flood prone locations and have not relocated if you are living in a flood prone location the time is now.

Parkways, bridges, trains will all be impacted by early evening and closures are likely. The Bronx River Parkway will close at 6 p.m. from Bronxville to the Kensico Dam. Metro North will suspend all service starting at 2 p.m.

Keep our alerts close by for important phone numbers and please use 911 for imminent police, fire or medical emergencies. General questions that can wait until after the storm passes should be held. 

The Village has declared a State of Emergency from 8:00 a.m. today through Tuesday at 12:00 p.m.

The Emergency Operation Center will open at 8:00 p.m. this evening and remain staffed until the storm and cleanup has been completed.

Remain sheltered during and after the storm to permit for proper damage assessment and debris cleanup.
