The passage for this week’s sermon ends the sentimental Christmas, the false one we have constructed. Now the real one can begin. The infant Jesus is in trouble. Herod is out to kill him and this young family flees to Egypt by night to escape. The Incarnation makes a radical claim, meaning that God took on human flesh and showed up in the midst of the world as you and I know it, not some fantasy world we would like to build, but the world that we experience every day. Is Christmas over? No, it’s here to stay and thanks be to God for that! Free parking. Fellowship hour follows worship.
