Updated: Marcotte Wins Conservative Primary

Updated Thursday 10 p.m.: With 100% of districts reporting their votes Thursday night, Sheila Marcotte seems to have soundly defeated her opponent Marilena Sophia in the District 10 Conservative primary. Results are not made official until re-canvassing has been done. 

Marcotte received 84% of the votes (66 total) to Sophia's 16% (13 total). One absentee vote was cast in the election. 

By winning the primary, Marcotte has earned a place on the Conservative line for November's 10th District county legislature election.

Original article: Although only 42 out of 64 (65%) districts have reported their votes as of Wednesday night, it appears as if Sheila Marcotte will comfortably defeat her opponent Marilena Sophia in the District 10 Conservative primary and guarantee herself a place on the Conservative line for November's 10th District county legislature election.

As of Wednesday, Marcotte has 44 votes (76%) to Sophia's 14 (24%). No absentee votes have been cast so far in the race, although a number of districts have yet to report their votes.  

Early reports out of the Westchester Board of Elections is that complete results could come as late as Thursday of next week. The lack of tallies from the remaining districts could be attributed to problems with voting machines -- or poll workers simply going home without calling results in, the county Board of Elections said Wednesday.

Election officials weren't able to provide specifics on a number of district primary, and said no clear winners can be announced until after re-canvassing and official results are released. Again, that could be as late as next Thursday, Sept. 22.

On Wednesday, Marcotte had this to say about this rather unique primary election and the early results:

"I am delighted that that the members of the conservative party reaffirmed the leadership endorsement by selecting me on primary night. This race, I have to say, was unusual. I have never met my opponent nor did she make any comments on any of the key issues that are important to voters. I ran my campaign on my record of fiscal conservative values and being accountable to the taxpayers. Basic kitchen table economics, you cannot spend what you do not have. This summer we watched as Tuckahoe was downgraded for irresponsible spending, followed by the county and last, but not least, the US Government.  I will continue to be an advocate of fiscal responsibility in an effort to return good government to the board of legislators in Westchester County."

, Chair of the Eastchester Town Conservative Committee Bob Fois revealed his full endorsement of Marcotte, calling the candidate a "worker bee" and "a very good friend and neighbor to the Eastchester community.”

“The important part is that we get the message out that Eastchester can’t be bullied by outsiders,” said Fois, who called Sophia's challenge a 'spike candidacy' and said that "all indications point to the fact that this was just done to cause trouble."

“It’s important that conservatives come out and send a message that we do support our candidates, and that we’re lucky to have Sheila Marcotte running for us," he added.
