Eastchester Fire Chief On Death of Firefighters in Tarrytown
Eastchester Fire Chief Michael Grogan called the incident a shock.

Eastchester Fire Chief Michael Grogan called the deaths of two volunteer firefighters in Tarrytown on Monday a shock.
"Everybody's a bit in shock when something like that happens," he said, explaining that it's always a tragedy to hear about incidents such as Monday's.
According to Tarrytown Patch, the two men, John Kelly and Anthony Ruggiero, both of Tarrytown, died after "succumbing to fumes and falling down an approximately 15-foot manhole behind Consolidated Engine Fire House in Tarrytown on Monday evening."

Grogan said that likely due to the distance of Tarrytown from Eastchester, the department has so far not been asked to stand in.
He noted that when similar tragedies have occurred in Eastchester, neighboring departments have been on hand to help. In particular, he mentioned the passing of Eastchester firefighter Joseph Liucci in May. Over the summer, a fundraiser was held in his memory at The Quarry in Tuckahoe.
