Eastchester Police Blotter August 2 – 8: Vehicles Damaged, GPS Unit Missing from Car

A look at some of the incidents investigated by the Eastchester Police Department.

Here's a look at some of the incidents investigated by the Eastchester Police Department for the week of August 2– August 8, 2010.

August 3:

12:23 p.m. A woman reported to police that she had been shopping at The Children's Place on White Plains Road when she noticed her wallet was missing. She said that when she entered the store, the wallet was in her zipped purse, but when she went to pay for her merchandise, her pocketbook, which was on the stroller, was unzipped and the wallet was gone. The woman didn't see anyone take it and the wallet wasn't found in the store by police. It contained about $30, gift cards, driver's license and a debit card.

1:33 p.m. A  fence in Joyce Road Park was damaged. The juvenile believed to have done it was found and parents were called, with the damage being estimated at about $500 to fix.

August 4:

3:09 p.m. While shopping at Stop and Shop on White Plains Road, someone tried to buy two American Express gift cards worth $100 each, along with other items. The check used to make the purchase didn't clear and while the cashier called for the manager's help, the person left the store with one of the cards. Upon investigation, police found the person, who said the card was taken from the store by accident. It was returned and no charges were filed.

10:39 p.m. When attempting to pay for items at an Eastchester restaurant, a woman, who was there with a small group, realized her wallet was missing. It was believed that one of the people in the group, who left the restaurant earlier, might have taken it.

August 5:

12:25 a.m. The woman from the earlier incident called police to say that the man believed to have taken the wallet was ringing her doorbell. Police spoke with the man, who said he had used the woman's debit card to make purchases at the Gulf station nearby. He and police went to the gas station, where they located the card. Orange juice, a 12-pack of beer and cigarettes had been purchased with it. The man was arrested and charged with grand larceny. A temporary order of protection was also issued.

7:48 a.m. The resident from the two earlier incidents reported to police that her car had been damaged. Police found scratches on all four doors, the hood, rear fenders and trunk and that the passenger side rear tire was flat and there was a gash in the driver's side front tire. The driver's side windshield wiper was also broken.

12 p.m. The owner of a 2007 Subaru Forester told police that a GPS unit with holder valued at $200, six CDs worth about $30, sunglasses worth $5, a bag with emergency tools valued at $30 and the driver's manual of the car were missing. Police reported there was no damage to the vehicle.

August 6:

7:32 a.m. The front window of Starbucks on White Plains Road was damaged. A small metal item believed to have come from either a lawn mower or a street sweeper, which were both in the area at the time, made a 2-inch crack in the glass,

8:26 a.m. An officer stopped a person driving on New Rochelle Road for going through a red light. After asking for the person's license and registration, the officer found that the license was suspended for failure to answer three summonses in the Bronx. The driver, a New Rochelle resident, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and the car was impounded. 

2:56 p.m. A resident reported to police that when he parked his car on California Road near the Channing Place intersection at about 9 p.m. on August 5 it was intact, but when he returned on August 6 at about 8 a.m., there was damage to the rear bumper, right side muffler, rear left wheel and rear left quarter panel.
