Eastchester Police Blotter August 9 – 15: Items Missing from Cars, Rock Spray-painted at Anne Hutch, Marijuana Arrest

Here's a look at some of the incidents investigated by the Eastchester Police Department for the week of August 9– August 15, 2010.
August 9:
8:38 p.m. While checking the park in Chester Heights, an officer found that three wooden spindles were missing from the railing of the gazebo.

August 10:
7:36 a.m. The glass on the front door of Westchester Bagel Café on White Plains Road was damaged. As of August 9 at 7 p.m. the glass was still intact.

August 11:
8:46 a.m. A total of $15 worth of loose change was missing from the center console of a car parked on Lee Avenue. The caller said he had parked the car in front of his house at 6 p.m. on August 10 and when he went back in the morning, he noticed the money was missing. Police said there appeared to be no forced entry.
11:27 a.m. A caller reported to police that items were missing from his car, which was parked on Branbach Avenue. A black bookbag with boxing equipment, a portable CD player and the faceplate for the radio in the car were all taken. The caller noted that the vehicle had been unlocked. There was no damage done to the car.
5:01 p.m. A resident of Tuckahoe Avenue reported to police that when she returned to her home at about 1:30 p.m. she noticed that the rear sliding door was open about 24 inches. She had left the house at 8:15 that morning and it had been closed. The caller thought it might have been the kids who'd left it open, but when police spoke with the babysitter, she said it wasn't. Police noticed slight damage to the upper portion of the doorframe and the dead bolt casing. Nothing in the house itself seemed to be damaged or missing, police said.
8:23 p.m. Police received a call that there was arguing going on near Glen Road. Upon investigation, police found a couple—an ex-boyfriend and girlfriend. When officers attempted to speak to the ex-boyfriend, he ran away. Police eventually caught up with him and he was arrested for disorderly conduct. He was released on $100 cash bail.
August 13:
10:23 p.m. Officers from drug and alcohol enforcement were patrolling the area around Interlaken Drive. They noticed a Nissan Altima pulled up to the area and when they approached the car, they saw an unwrapped cigar. Upon further investigation, police found marijuana in the car. The 27-year-old Eastchester resident in the car was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
August 14:
9:08 a.m. At some point between 5 p.m. on August 13 and 9 a.m. on August 14, a statue in front of the Eastchester library was smashed on the walkway. The 2-ft. statue, which was of a girl reading a book, was valued at $100 and was located in the courtyard, near the Oakridge Place entrance to the library.
3:30 p.m. Police received a report that a motorcycle, which was parked on Gaylor Road, had been knocked over. The bike was parked at 2:45 p.m. and when the caller returned, he noticed there was damage to the front and rear fenders and rear taillight bracket. The owner estimated the damage to be about $2,100.
6:55 p.m. Police responded to the rear steps of Anne Hutchinson Elementary School, where a caller reported seeing two male and one female youths spray painting. The youths left before police arrived and were not located. A rock on the top of the back wall, close to the steps, had been spray painted with white paint.
August 15:
2:37 a.m. A grandmother and grandson on Nelson Road reported to police that around 11:45 p.m. on August 14, they had heard a loud noise. Although they didn't see anyone in the area, they noticed damage to the house and car, which was parked in the driveway. On the house, a glass pane was broken and there was a small dent on the ground level siding. The car had a dent on the driver's side door handle. Police also noticed stones on the ground in the area near the damage.
