Folk Singer-Songwriter Joe Crookston With Mustard's Retreat April 11th

Acclaimed folk singer-songwriter and storyteller Joe Crookston appears with Michigan-based folk duo Mustard’s Retreat on a double bill on Saturday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Walkabout Clearwater Coffeehouse at Memorial United Methodist Church, 250 Bryant Avenue in White Plains, NY. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance, $23 at the door, $15 at the door with a student I.D. and $10 for children 6-12. Joe Crookston (www.joecrookston.com) plays a1948 Gibson guitar and sings about ruby red dresses, Tinian Island, Dylan Thomas, Taoist parables and drunken roosters. His music embraces the universal and connects people. He is also described as “literate, poignant and funny as hell.” His 2008 CD, Able Baker Charlie and Dog, received the most airplay of any folk acoustic recording and was awarded “Album of the Year” by the International Folk Alliance in Memphis, TN.

Mustard’s Retreat (www.mustardsretreat.com) is a Michigan-based duo comprised of David Tamulevich and Michael Hough. According to The Ark, Michigan’s nonprofit home for folk and roots music, “Ann Arbor is home to many talented musicians and performers but perhaps none have garnered as much national acclaim and as avid a following.” Known for its songwriting, Mustard’s Retreat has for four decades also developed a reputation as a top-notch interpreter of traditional and contemporary songs and stories. A MR show is packed with enthusiasm, good humor and fine musicianship. Both are multi-instrumentalists and accompany their singing with guitar, electric bass, dulcimer, mandolin, harmonica and pennywhistle.
