Giordano Named To Tuckahoe Village Board

On Monday night, the Village Board approved the appointment of Tom Giordano to fill Luigi Marcoccia's unexpired term.

With his wife and two sons by his side, Thomas Giordano was sworn in as a trustee on the Tuckahoe Village Board at a special meeting on Monday night.

Giordano spent close to two years on the Village's Zoning Board of Appeals and had been chairman for only three months before being appointed to the Village Board.

The vacancy came after Luigi Marcoccia, a former trustee, was made councilman on the Eastchester Town Board last week.

Giordano will fill Marcoccia's unexpired term until March 2011, when an election for the seat will take place.

At the meeting, Mayor John Fitzpatrick said that with the loss of Marcoccia, they wanted to fill the seat as quickly as possible.

"I am pleased and honored to accept your appointment," Giordano said, noting that the core of the word trustee is "simply trust."

Giordano went on to thank his parents, who were in the audience, as well as his wife and children. "It is not an individual, but a family that undertakes these responsibilities," he said.

After he expressed his gratitude to Board members and the Mayor, they each welcomed the new trustee.

"You're going to be a fine, fine public servant. I'm happy to have you on board and look forward to working with you," said Trustee Steven Ecklond.

An attorney, Giordano has been a resident of Eastchester his entire life and has lived in Tuckahoe for the past six years.

"I'm really grateful for the appointment and am looking forward to serving the community. I feel great about it," Giordano said after the meeting.

In terms of what he brings to assist with issues facing the Board he said, "I think my training as an attorney has helped me to analyze problems, to try to deal with them in a way that's effective, and cut through the emotion to the core of issues. And I think my background living in the town for my whole life, can bring a perspective that perhaps is unique to someone who has spent most of their life here."

The next Tuckahoe Board of Trustees meeting will take place on August 9 at 8 p.m.
