HOW ITALIAN ARE YOU? The New Italian American Identity
This dynamic lecture series explores the multiple dimensions of the Italian identity among native Italians and Italian-Americans.

Through the understanding of factors that influence Italian American identity, and the ways in which they affect individuals daily lives, Dr. Serra analyzes the self-representation of Italian Americans and the self-perception of representations suggested by others of the Italian American community. She will also reflect on the meaning that Italian heritage has in the daily lives of younger generations and how it affects their value, behaviors, attitudes, beliefs, and image of Italy and the Italian. Dr. Rosemary Serra is a leading research sociologist from the University of Trieste. Dr. Serra is the author of a groundbreaking and much relevant research that investigates the status of Italian American identity within the greater New York area.
This dynamic lecture series explores the multiple dimensions of the Italian identity among native Italians and Italian-Americans, and how modern influences have changed Italy’s traditional culture to shape a new generation.
