Leewood Golf Club's Renovation On Track For May Opening in Eastchester
Citing the unseasonably warm temperatures as a major factor, the extensive renovation to the course that began last Fall will wrap up in time for the May 5 Opening Day Member's Tournament.
Not only have the recently warm temperatures had an , but that also have expedited renovations on the , which is now reporting that the completion date is ahead of schedule.
Originally slated for later in the Spring, the course is expecting to be fully open for the May 5 Opening Day Member's Tournament, having worked dilligently over the last six months to install a state of the art irrigation system as well as making some significant course renovations.

The Leewood project team, headed up by Green’s Chairman, Norman Fell, and Green’s Superintendent, Trapper Van Dunk, they have overseen many upgrades to the course; ranging from several new ponds and streams to two entirely new greens complexes and many new tee boxes.
With the recent changes, the back nine at Leewood promises to be one of the most challenging in Westchester County.

Other details of the course renovation, initiated in October 2011, includes the following updates:
- Two new greens complexes – Holes 15 and 18.
- More than 20 new tee boxes that will allow for a fourth set of tees, extending the length of the par 70 course to more than 6400 yards.
- Completely new computerized irrigation system.
- A series of large ponds and streams that will allow for on-site storage of more than 1.5 million gallons of water
Alan Weiss, President of the Leewood Golf Club says that, "the ponds, which are a critical backbone of our new irrigation system tied to our new on-site pump station, also provide incredible aesthetics benefits and expanded golf challenges."
"Additionally, from the amazing transformation of the 15th hole, to the entirely new 18th hole, to the subtle raising and widening of the 12th fairway, Leewood is a course that allows its members to feel even prouder than ever,” Weiss continued.
Leewood Golf Club, which opened their doors back in 1922, has seen a wealth of famous members, including Babe Ruth and director D.W. Griffith.
In 2009, Leewood’s pool complex was replaced and now includes an adult and kiddie pools, the perfect place to relax during the summer months.
