By Gail Farrelly If so, do I have a link for you! Check out "The 2013 ABA Journal/Ross Writing Contest for Legal Short Fiction" http://is.gd/lg5ouy A friend told me about this contest. What's not to like? No entry fee, a prize of $3,000, unpublished and published (but not anything published before January 1, 2012) entries accepted. Deadline is July 31, maximum word limit: 7,500 words.
I find entering writing contests to be a good thing, especially if there's no submission fee. When a "new" story is required, the contest provides the discipline and deadline for me to "just get it done." No matter how I fare in contests, I'm confident that the story will end up being published somewhere, at some point. Good deal! It may take a little while to find the proper venue, but that's okay.
If you're thinking of writing a murder mystery for the contest, you might want to check out Jan Christensen's latest blog post, "How to Plot a Murder" http://www.janchristensen.com/how-to-plot-a-murder/ Just remember, folks, we're talking fiction! LOL
It's a good time for me to blog, because I want to get out the word that The Untreed Reads Store is celebrating the 4th of July NOW by offering a terrific special on its website: 4 short stories for $1.00. See the details http://goo.gl/bT4j2 Here are a few of my latest spoofs (you didn't think I'd do a blog post without listing them, did you?):
