Michelangelo: Aesthetics and Sculpture THE AESTHETICS SENSE OF STONE AND THE FIGURE

Professor Coppola will take a critical look at Michalangelo's work and the reception it received during the Renaissance

This series of lectures will study and discuss the unique aesthetic theory of art, as well as the sculptures of the famed Renaissance Italian artist Michelangelo Buonarrotti, 1475-1564. Michelangelo considered himself primarily a sculptor. By studying his masterworks, one can observe his aesthetic and remarkable technique through his choice of subject and his use of the human figure. Presented by Professor John Coppola, MFA MA.
Some early works of sculpture will be introduced, including the Bruges Madonna, Doni Tondo, Bacchus and others.
