Food Service Ban Extended in Eastchester

The moratorium on new food service establishments in Eastchester was extended this week but Town officials hope to change the legislation and lift the ban in the coming months.

For several years now, Eastchester has had in place a moratorium on all food service applicants, preventing establishments such as Panera Bread or Five Guys Burgers from opening up shop in town and at Tuesday evening's Board meeting, the moratorium was extended for what Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita hopes is only a temporary time period.

"We felt that there was simply not enough time for the public to make comment on lifting the moratorium as well as laying out the Town's plans moving forward and we felt it necessary to extend the moratorium out to at least the next few Board meetings so that all involved parties can have a clearer understanding before moving forward," said Colavita.

Over the last few years, town officials have received inquiries by various businesses looking to open their doors as food service establishments in Eastchester and once the ban is lifted, the board expects that more inquiries will begin to make their way to Town Hall.

The next Town Board meeting in Eastchester is scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 4 at 8 p.m.
