New Director of Athletics at Sarah Lawrence

Kristin Maile has been named Director of Athletics and Physical Education at the college after serving six years as Director of Athletics at Cedar Crest College.

 

Theathletic department has been busy this summer and this week announced the naming of Kristin Maile as Director of Athletics and Physical Education.

Maile replaces Carolyn Miles, who departs after an 11-year career with the Gryphons, including time as aquatics director, head men’s and women’s crew coach and acting athletic director.

Maile comes to Sarah Lawrence from Cedar Crest College, where she served a six-year stint (2006-12) as director of athletics, wellness and recreation, overseeing the college’s eight NCAA Division III teams, according to a press release given from Sarah Lawrence.

During her tenure, the Falcons posted the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s highest combined student-athlete GPA in back-to-back years, and the department underwent improvements in recruiting, life skills and physical education.

Before joining Cedar Crest, Maile functioned as associate director of athletics at Wellesley College from 2002 to ’06. In addition to supervising staff, she served on served on various search committees and played a vital role in coordinating events such as invitational, conference and post-season tournaments, including NCAA and ECAC Championships.

Maile’s background is highlighted by an extensive coaching career, including seven seasons (1995-2001) as head volleyball coach at The University of Scranton. She earned MAC Freedom Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1999 and 2001 after leading the Royals to league championships and NCAA Championship berths.

Maile returned to coaching during her time at Cedar Crest, earning her 200th career win in the process.
