Newburgh Woman Arrested in Bronxville For Allegedly Driving Friend's Daughter to a Fight

On Thursday, police arrested four people—two were charged with endangering a child.

A Newburgh woman was arrested in Bronxville for endangering the welfare of a child after she allegedly drove her friend's daughter to the Village for a fight, police said.

At about 8:41 p.m., on Thursday police received a call about a group of people on the grounds of the Bronxville School who looked suspicious. Officers responded and discovered about 40 youths on the property, watching a fight between two girls.

Police have information that the fight was organized on a social networking site, and that's what drew the large crowd, Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale said.

The incident led to four arrests.

Laura Villanueva, a 46-year-old resident of Newburgh was charged with both endangering the welfare of a child and with menacing, for allegedly wielding a tire iron to prevent anyone in the crowd from joining the fight.

Cathy Leone, a 43-year-old Bronx resident was also arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly driving her daughter to the fight and encouraging her to participate.

Leone was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, after a search upon her arrest revealed she had a stun gun, police said.

In addition, a 17-year-old Yonkers resident was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for being involved in the fighting.

The fourth arrest was of a 14-year-old, who was charged with assault in the 3rd degree. The minor was alleged to have caused injury after hitting a person with a tire iron.

One of the participants in the fight was treated at Lawrence Hospital for injuries, which led to the assault arrest, Satriale said.

Since the 14-year-old is a minor, the case is referred to the Department of Probation, a division of family court. The other three arrested were arraigned in Bronxville Court and released on their own recognizance. They are due back in Village Court on July 21.
