Open House for Concordia Conservatory of Music and Art

This Saturday, Sept. 8 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., an open house will take place in Stein Hall on the Concordia campus highlighting the music and visual arts school.

Concordia Conservatory, the community music & visual arts school of Concordia College, announces its 2012-13 open house to introduce its offerings in early childhood, youth, and adult programs on Saturday,

September 8, from 1:00-4:00pm in Stein Hall. The afternoon will feature student and faculty performances, demonstrations in Stein Hall,  and tours of the Art Studio  throughout the afternoon. Also included in the open house are early childhood classes, and opportunities to meet and interact with music & art students, faculty, department heads and the Executive Director. The open house is for prospective students from ages 6 months through adults and seniors.

The 2012-13 programming will introduce the new and expanded visual arts curriculum for youth and adults. In a classical Conservatory approach, the new classes incorporate art theory, drawing, and observational skills.  In the youth program beginning with Art Club Junior through Teen Studio Art, students develop a visual literacy by understanding different art forms,  techniques, and mediums.

A class in Photoshop, using the latest Adobe software, is offered in the Concordia College’s computer lab for those students from ages 11 - 14 interested in developing their graphic artist capabilities. The High School Studio Workshop provides students with an opportunity for independent study with a studio art instructor.

Concordia Conservatory of Music & Art continues Its core programming of Private Instruction in all instruments and visual arts, Chamber Music for all ages and abilities,  Jazz/rock/pop bands for players with one year private instruction experience, and the annual tuition-free holiday musical theatre production. This year's production, "Snowflake Has Its Day" by Matt Van Brink and Jen Littlefield will hold auditions on September 28 & 29.

The Conservatory is adding a new recognition program for its music students - the Junior and Senior Awards of Distinction. The Awards of Distinction is an honors program created for Conservatory students ages 12 – 18 who excel in their musical pursuits. Students selected for this honor will be those who embody the Conservatory’s mission to inspire, instruct and enrich lives through their attitude, efforts, character, and artistic achievement. The Awards of Distinction prerequisites are detailed in the 2012-13 Conservatory catalog.
