PGA HOPE --Helping Our Patriots Everywhere-- Military Golf Program Coming to NY Metropolitan Area

Military veterans in the NY metropolitan area will soon be teeing it up at local golf courses, thanks to PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere).

PGA HOPE is a program that introduces golf to veterans, including those with disabilities, in order to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The program is offered by PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America, at NO COST to the participating veterans.

In preparation for the PGA HOPE Program, which will begin in May, PGA Professional, Dave Windsor, an expert in teaching adaptive golf programs for individuals with physical/cognitive challenges, hosted a group training session at Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY. While PGA Professionals are recognized as the premier teachers of the game, this simulated training session was designed to ensure all instructors are comfortable working with veterans that may be dealing with a specific set of physical or cognitive challenges such as TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), or the loss of limbs.

PGA HOPE training, which takes place in markets all over the country, has become an invaluable precursor to the launch of the PGA HOPE program. Golf is a proven activity that has positively impacted the lives of thousands of military veterans nationwide, and beginning in May, veterans in the NY-Metropolitan area will enjoy the many benefits of the game through their own 8-week PGA HOPE program.

Currently operating in 15 states, this will serve as the first PGA HOPE program offered in the state of New York, as the PGA of America continues to expand military programming nationwide. The ultimate goal is to have a PGA HOPE program in every state by 2016.
