Project on Yonkers Ave. in Tuckahoe on Track
A new report released from the project manager of the streambank protection project along Yonkers Ave. in Tuckahoe reveals a completion in the subsurface investigation with perhaps eight more weeks of work.

Â
In what will be a routine communication with the village, Karen Ashton, P.E., Project Manager of the streambank protection project issued her weekly update on the progress being made to complete the subsurface investigation and have the Army Corps of Engineers (AEOC) sign off on its completion.
To date, Hirani, the construction contractor, completed the required subsurface investigation on Aug. 1, and preliminary data does not show a negative impact in the overall area of Yonkers Ave. which means that with the ACOE's approval, the project can once again move forward.

This approval may come as early as next week after they review more subsurface reports and then Hirani is still estimating a period of eight weeks from that point until the Village of Tuckahoe will take over operations along Yonkers Ave. and open at least one lane of traffic while the rest of the roadway receives its final repairs.

Here is the weekly update in its entirety from Karen Ashton, P.E., Project Manager:
Hirani, the construction contractor, completed the required subsurface investigation on 1 August 2012. Currently, Hirani’s geotechnical and engineering specialists are reviewing the data and preparing a Subsurface Investigation Report.Â
The Army Corps of Engineers has also been reviewing the draft data and the preliminary results. This allows the ACOE to make up to the minute decisions as to the stability of the subsurface – which is critical to the safety of the project site as well as the structural integrity of the end product.Â
To date, preliminary results do not indicate that the subsurface has been negatively impacted except in the immediate areas where the casings were driven into the ground.Â
Currently, the Subsurface Investigation Report that includes a recommended Corrective Action Plan is being prepared by the contractor. The ACOE expects this Report early next week for review and approval to proceed with the recommended corrective action.Â
Once the corrective action has been completed, the “Stop Work Order” will be satisfied. At such point, construction may resume with approximately 8 weeks of additional construction remains on this portion of the project which is designed to provide long term erosion protection of the streambank which helps stabilize Yonkers Avenue.
